NY Times columnist slams Democrats for denials about crime, migrants and inflation in US cities: ‘Shut up’

New York Times columnist Ezra Klein blasted Democrats for their stubborn denials that American cities are plagued by rising crime, out-of-control immigration and rising prices, saying they should “shut up.”

In Donald Trump’s surprise election victory last week, the president-elect won a 6.5% gain in the most populous urban counties across the country, which outpaced the 3.3% swing to Trump in suburban counties, the Washington Post reported.

One Manhattan voting precinct even went red for the first time in at least a decade, The Post reported exclusively this week.

Klein, 40, cited the anger that has been building among residents of big blue cities like New York and San Francisco, saying Democrats trying to explain deteriorating conditions in those cities should “talk to some people who live near you”.

“The thing that surprised me the least about the election was the sharp red shift in these big cities,” Klein said on the Save America Pod on Wednesday. “If you just talk to anyone who lives in them, they’re angry.”

“The anger that I’m just hearing from people in New York … the sense of disorder on the rise, not just crime, but homeless encampments, garbage in the streets, people jumping on subways, crazy people in the streets. “You just talk to people and they’re raving about it,” Klein said.

“In San Francisco, the anger is great.”

“And this idea that the economy is actually good, or crime is actually down, that’s all just Fox News, shut up about it,” the Vox co-founder continued.

“People do not follow politics, but live in the country where they live. They see if prices have gone up too much and a bunch of economists telling them no, no, no, no don’t worry about the price of everything … they’re not going to do that,” Klein said.

“There were enough migrants that Greg Abbott could bus real human bodies into New York City, and it was a big enough problem that New York City couldn’t handle effectively,” Klein said.

“It shows that what was going on at the border was much worse than the Democrats were letting themselves admit.”
